In corporeal terms Ralph Of London is Leopold, François, Diane and Ralph, four musicians brought together between London and the North of France sometime in the middle of 2017. They describe their music as Shit-Pop, or in more elaborate words: a soundtrack for the end of musical history. As a group, the eclectic influences that bleed through their music are transcended into a homogenous sonic tapestry that sounds both fresh and meticulously crafted. Following a string of one off tracks uploaded online with a conceptual video, the band released their first official single ‘Hopeless Melody' in May 2019, followed by ‘Worlds End’ in February 2020, both taken from ‘The Potato Kingdom’, the debut ROL LP subsequently released in March 2020. After three years of transporting drums, vintage synthesisers and electric guitars around the UK and France to hone their live repertoire, Ralph and the band are now in the process of recording their second LP in the self built ‘Yellow Sky Studio’, a multifaceted art facility constructed in a disused quarter of an inner city Protestant Temple.

Rattlesnake Milk, formed circa 2012 in Lubbock, TX, started as a product of a handful of home recordings captured by singer Lou Lewis while farming cotton in the Texas panhandle. Lewis found inspiration in the empty landscape of the farm and the vintage airwaves of KDAV 1590AM, recording 8 demos in his childhood bedroom. The demos paid homage to his favorite dust bowl era migrant hymns and haunted gems from the 50's and 60's.

With the help of Lubbock friends Zach Davis, Andrew Chavez and Brad Ivy, Rattlesnake Milk recorded their 2013 debut "Snake Rattle and Roll". In 2015, the band relocated to Austin and opened the southern leg of a tour with the bands Natural Child and Birdcloud. The band then adopted drummer Corey “Chencho” Alvarez and bassist Erik Pawlak. In 2019 the band finished their self titled sophomore LP with producer Danny Reisch (Good Danny’s).

My mum was my biggest inspiration and my number one fan. For her birthday and Christmas every year I would give her CDs filled with my music. She would listen on repeat. It gave her the energy to make it through daily tasks that, due to her deteriorating health, she struggled with so much. She would give me feedback on every song, and I would call her from the studio to play her new things I’d done. Re-entering the studio after losing her, I found myself using my music to grieve. The only way I found purpose was in creating pieces that embodied my experience and dug deep into my emotion. I'm finding a light in the darkness, and I hope I can help others do the same.

Owner of an extremely impressive vinyl collection Ryan’s love of music was inspired by both his Father, whose passionate encouragement was repaid by an unending hunt for new artists that he might like, and his Uncle to whom he attributes his obsession with guitar and music in general.

From the mundane, to the sublime, Ryan’s musical perspective never fails to raise a wry smile. William Blake couched in the warm embrace of harmony, “If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, Infinite. For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things thro’ narrow chinks of his cavern.”

For most of his career, songwriter and producer Ryan Lerman has been making music in the shadows. On April 16, he’ll release his solo album Self Defense, recorded in his LA hometown.

Along the way, Lerman produced and wrote songs for Lizzy McAlpine, toured the world as the string arranger and musical director for John Legend, and formed Scary Goldings, the funk instrumental band with keyboardist Larry Goldings. He’s also a co-writer and live guitarist for Vulfpeck and toured with Ben Folds, Tallest Man On Earth, and Michael Buble.  In January 2025, Lerman was the guitarist for Timothée Chalamet on SNL, alongside James Blake. 

Ryan might be best known for co-creating Scary Pockets, the hit online series that pairs a rotating cast of  ace musicians with a different singer every week, turning well known songs upside-down with clever funk arrangements, and the spinoff podcast Dead Wax. That same collaborative ethos made its way to Self Defense; songs like “Missing Girl” were built up during jam sessions with musician-friends,  “Community is one of the most important things in my life,” Lerman says.

There’s been plenty of joy for Ryan Lerman in recent years. But there’s also been a striking amount of loss, grief, uncertainty and painfully earned growth — “growth,” Lerman says, “into what feels like adulthood.” He has witnessed his father’s decline due to Alzheimer’s, an experience he describes as “the progression of losing someone slowly, of reality becoming blurred and coming into focus differently.” He also lost his grandfather, one of the “most special relationships in my life.” Throughout it all, he wrote and recorded Self Defense. 

“Ryan is a unique musical personality,” adds Vulfpeck’s Theo Katzman. “An excellent songwriter, fearless sonic explorer, expert instrumental craftsman, and one of my favorite voices in music. I love his songs, and I love hearing him sing.”

The making of Self Defense underscores Lerman’s love for his extended family of artists:  co-producer, Jeremy Most, whose work Lerman grew to love after hearing singer-songwriter Emily King’s records. “Having Jeremy as a trusted resource to bounce ideas off of, and to tell me when I was cooking things too long, was really valuable,” Lerman says. “He kept trying to get me to scream in my songs, but other than that he was fantastic.” Lerman’s team also includes mixing engineer Cian Riordan (St. Vincent, Lana Del Rey, Paul McCartney), drummer Ted Poor and CJ Camerieri and Rob Moose of yMusic

“All these songs fit together and tell my story of the past four years,” says Lerman. “I’ve learned a few things, I have something to say, and I’m figuring out how to stand up for myself. ”
