b. Noel Philips, c.1962, Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies. Philips began his career in 1981 with King Jammy when he recorded ‘Youthman’ and an obscure album under his own name. He decided to start afresh with Michael ‘Myrie’ Taylor and Marshall who had set up the Sunset label. Owing to confusion over the Harry J. label of the same name, the duo discontinued Sunset and resurfaced with the Reggae Sting logo. The result of Philips’ association with the team was ‘Ten Miles’, recording as Echo Minott. He performed in the ‘sing-jay’ style that was immensely popular in the early 80s. In 1982 he recorded ‘Emilio Bimbo’ with Prince Hammer, who took control of Minott’s career on his own Berris label. Minott’s popularity grew when he performed ‘What The Hell The Police Can Do’, a reference to the security forces’ reluctance to become involved in domestic disputes. With producer Jack Scorpio he recorded ‘Lazy Body’, an early product of the digital age, as the rhythm was accompanied with a drum machine, considered sacrilegious by the purists. The result of the song’s popularity was the release of two one-rhythm albums, Lively Body and Lively Move. At the 10th Reggae Sunsplash in Jamaica, Minott virtually stole the show at the dancehall night when he performed alongside Peter Metro, Red Dragon, Leroy Smart, Lovindeer and General Trees. Minott continued to record irregular hits through to the 90s, including ‘Wherever You Go’, ‘Cool And Deadly’, ‘Jealousy Fe Done’, ‘When My Little Girl Is Smiling’ and ‘New Dimension’. In 1993 he enjoyed a dancehall success with ‘Murder Weapon’, which used similar vocal phrasing to Burning Spear and led to various dance remixes. In 1995 Minott had a minor hit with ‘Girl Of My Complexion’, which reaffirmed his enduring talent.

Originally formed in 2005 by Eugene Suh and Brandon Dudley in San Francisco, California, Echodrone has been praised by both critics and peers alike for having mastered the process of recording catchy and dreamy songs remotely during the Covid-19 pandemic.  Their latest effort, “Resurgence” follows the critically acclaimed album “Everything Starts To Be A Reminder” (2019, Dome A Records). Resurgence comes across as a journey that takes you from the dark, crushing confusion of the world to shining moments that poke through like sunrays piercing the clouds when you need it most.

Echodrone’s new songs came to life during the chaos of 2020’s pandemic as well as heated political climate as a way to reflect the musician’s collective inner souls and cope with the isolating lockdown. The result is an album that was created without boundaries, pure heart, and some serious wiliness to let go and run with what felt natural versus what was expected.

The sudden pause of daily life due to the pandemic, brought the members of the band closer together. After several weeks of exchanging ideas and emotions, Eugene Suh started to assemble new songs from his home in Boston, MA. as a way to release the confusion stemming weight of unpredictability. Fellow Bostonian drummer Andy Heyer joined Eugene to help round out the songs in the studio. Each song was then bounced via file-sharing from band member to band member until the tracks were a perfect reflection of the member’s inner collective souls and emotional state of minds. Brandon Dudley recorded bass from his home in Huntington Beach, California, Mike Funk infused his synths in San Luis Obispo, California, and Jackie Kasbohm recorded and sang her heart out from her home in Seattle, Washington. 

While the band is peppered all over The United States - one thing comes across clearly - total dedication and respect for one another and creating songs that are immensely melodic and constantly shifting and morphing. It is by sheer passion for creation that allowed the band to artistically shine during unprecedented times and create their new album, Resurgence.

Bird lives ! C’est, paraît-il, ce qu’on pouvait lire sur les murs de Manhattan peu après la mort de Charlie Parker survenue le 12 mars 1955. L’histoire ne dit pas si Paris vit telle floraison de graffitis à l’heure de celle de Django Reinhardt, un peu moins de trois ans auparavant (16 mai 1953, par une journée lourde et orageuse). Ce qui est certain, c’est que la descendance du divin manouche vaut bien celle de l’oiseau de feu du bop, tant par le nombre que par la qualité et la dévotion vivante. Un incroyable défilé de générations de musiciens a en effet repris à bon compte l’héritage, s’imprégnant de toutes les fulgurances de ces génies trop humains pour ne briller que depuis leur Olympe. La postérité inaltérable n’est toutefois pas sans écueils : à la célébrer béatement, les âmes les mieux attentionnées lui font parfois courir le risque de la fossilisation. De toute évidence, Edouard Pennes ne mange pas de ce pain là : ni gardien du temple, ni gardien de musée, il a choisi la vie. Membre fondateur avec Bastien Ribot du RP Quartet, sémillante et originale formation bien plantée dans le décor du jazz hexagonal depuis une bonne douzaine d’années, guitariste formé par l’immense et trop méconnu Serge Krief, animateur des folles nuits des Paris Jazz Sessions, Edouard Pennes n’a eu pour ce Génération Django que des bonnes idées. De celles qui prolongent l’invention et l’aura du maître. La principale étant d’avoir revêtu le costume du contrebassiste qui est un peu le chef d’orchestre du jazz gitan. Un chef d’orchestre maitre de la pulsation et avec au bout de sa baguette un magnifique petit quatuor à cordes, des arrangements ad hoc et un bouquet de guitaristes parmi les plus intéressants du moment. Car Sébastien Giniaux, Romain Vuillemin, Fanou Torracinta sont de sérieux clients. Les meilleurs peut-être pour arpenter avec délice ce répertoire qui, pour leur être familier, n’en réveille pas moins toutes leurs qualités. Depuis ses débuts dans la musique, Sébastien Giniaux s’est choisi Django Reinhardt pour phare, le suivant même dans la pratique sérieuse de la peinture. Son intérêt pour la culture des Balkans, la musique classique et l’improvisation en ont fait un musicien agile et curieux, toujours éloquent (puisqu’il ne parle jamais pour ne rien dire) comme en attestent ses prises de paroles sur « Swing 48 », manifeste de modernité, ou ce « Troublant boléro » emmené sur un pastel de folk. Romain Vuillemin a lui aussi vu Dieu le Père en découvrant la musique du créateur de «Nuages». Avec son quartet, il en a prêché la bonne parole, en assimilant jusqu’à la moelle les éléments de l’école alsacienne dont il est issu. A la pompe comme en voix lead, dans les trépidations de « Dinette » comme dans les vapeurs de « Manoir de mes rêves », le guitariste ne triche pas. Fanou Torracinta a baigné dans un pays de guitare et de voix fortes. En Corse, son île, il croise Tchavolo Schmitt qui va le révéler à un public plus large mais Django règne déjà en coeur telle une idole. Une douce langueur (qui le fait exceller sur les valses et autres flonflons dont « Montagne Sainte Geneviève » se fait l’écho) et la sonorité de cristal qu’il prête à « Nuages » lui confèrent une place de choix et tout à fait méritée sur la scène actuelle. Rassembler tant de talents – auxquels s’ajoutent ceux de Julien Cattiaux à la pompe, Giacomo Smith et Robert Fish à la clarinette – ne différencierait pas ce projet d’autres hommages à Django Reinhardt si Edouard Pennes n’avait eu le goût d’y placer un très élégant quatuor à cordes (Jules Dussap et Charlotte Chahuneau au violon, Issey Nadaud à l’alto et Apolline Lafait au violoncelle), toujours placé au bon endroit et au bon moment par les arrangements de Philippe Maniez, Sébastien Béliah et David Paycha. Des couleurs impressionnistes que Django aimait tant, aux cadences baroques très anciennes cousines du jazz, jusqu’aux symphonies de poche à la remarquable efficacité, ces arrangements illuminent littéralement les compositions, sans en retrancher aucune des propositions. Ce qu’un arrangement devrait toujours être ! Ce Génération Django n’est pas un hommage comme les autres. Ici, on ne voit pas le temps passer et les thèmes, même connus par coeur, défilent dans toute leur évidence, loin des artifices et des déluges de notes. Un magnifique spicilège du génie qu’il célèbre et qui, décidément, ne meurt jamais. Django lives !

The fact that Eelke Kleijn DJs in his socks and produces in a standing position tells you exactly what you need to know about him. He never feels more at home than when he’s behind the decks, and there’s no separation between the booth, his studio or the dance floor. This natural air he brings to all facets of his music is reflected in its organic feel and has helped his creative identity shine in a crowded scene.

Four albums into a well-established yet still rapidly ascending career, Kleijn is an artist very much in his element. Success has come on his own terms, without compromise or being calculating. In the grand scheme of things, he’s an underground artist, but one who has effortlessly made the jump into the wider world when the time and opportunity felt right. His remixes for the likes of John Legend, Pendulum, RÜFÜS DU SOL and James Newton Howard & Jennifer Lawrence are testament to his ability to reach wider audiences without giving up on his core values. French rock band EIFFEL were founded by Romain and Estelle Humeau in 1998. After the release of a first 1999 EP (L'Affaire), the band was spotted by producer Bertrand Burgalat, seeking a backing band for French writer Michel Houellebecq's 1999 music project. Gaining a larger following and more exposure over the years, EIFFEL released two albums (2001's L'Abricotine and 2002's Le Quart d'Heure des Ahuris) before Romain Humeau took some time off to record a solo project. EIFFEL returned as a band with a new EP, Ma Part d'Ombre, in 2006 and a new album, Tandoori, in 2007. The full-length À Tout Moment arrived in 2009, followed by Foule Monstre in 2012 and now by Stupor Machine in 2019 !

The blends of funk, soul and tropical music, together, creates a unique fusion of sounds you can relax or dance to. Enigma State, from Manchester UK, is a Trance producer who's aim is to take you right back to the late 90s/early 00s. Ësenaim. was born from the urge to transform field experiences into something that could be felt, heard, and shared. After working in over 20 countries with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)—from cholera outbreaks in Haiti to displacement in Congo and floods in South Sudan—Sarah Guefif and Michael Casera returned home with memories that words alone couldn’t carry.

Since 2016, they have recorded sounds and written poetry during missions—capturing voices, atmospheres, and emotional landscapes to preserve the intensity of what they witnessed: human resilience, cultural depth, and the realities of crisis zones.

Gradually, the idea of Ësenaim. emerged: a project blending electronic music compositions, poetry, and visual storytelling into immersive performances.

The upcoming album and tour, Talk About, is a natural continuation of this journey. Inspired by MSF’s #TalkAbout campaign, it gives voice to places often forgotten—through sound, story, and shared experience.
