Description

Silva Screen Records is proud to unveil Music from The Crown, a sweeping new album that celebrates the Emmy-winning Netflix series through fresh orchestral interpretations of its most memorable cues. Performed by the acclaimed ensemble London Music Works and featuring expressive cello solos from Nick Squires, the collection spans all six seasons, tracing the Crown’s journey from a young Elizabeth II to the close of her reign.

Arranged for full orchestra with modern cinematic polish, these new performances honour that evolving musical language while bringing a concert-hall immediacy to Zimmer’s woodwind-lead Main Title, Gregson-Williams and Balfe’s sweeping first-era themes, and Phipps’ later, more introspective motifs.

Hans Zimmer approached The Crown with the same seriousness as a feature film, recognizing creator Peter Morgan’s ambitious vision for the series. Zimmer recalls how he immediately understood the scale of the project when Morgan invited him onboard:

“If Peter Morgan comes to me and he goes, ‘I’ve given up on doing movies. I want to do The Crown.’ … You take that very serious. And Peter’s vision [is] as vast … what a juggernaut that’s been.”

Rupert Gregson-Williams has spoken about the meticulous process of crafting The Crown’s initial soundscape, particularly the now-famous main theme. He credits Peter Morgan’s clear direction for guiding the tone of the music in early seasons:

“Peter Morgan was very specific about how he wanted [the music] to feel like we had tectonic plates shifting in the world… He wanted it to feel regal, but without being pompous, and we had lots of conversations. In fact, that theme took quite a long time, a lot of time talking and not writing, and eventually we got it.”

Lorne Balfe has highlighted how The Crown’s score evolves in step with its characters. As the young Queen Elizabeth grows into a seasoned monarch, the music likewise matures from the wonder of Season 1 to the darker, weightier tones of Season 2:

“The queen is now a reigning monarch instead of a young girl given this position… It’s a different journey for them and that’s why the music evolves.”

When Martin Phipps took over scoring duties in Season 3 (as the series transitioned to a new cast and a new era), he was mindful of the musical legacy before him while forging a fresh identity for the score. Phipps admired what his predecessors had established and used that as a springboard for his own approach:

“I have a huge admiration for what Hans, Rupert and Lorne had done on the first two seasons… It was a daunting act to follow, but I was encouraged by the belief that Peter wanted the kind of score I liked writing, not just a continuation of what had gone before.”

Produced by Silva Screen’s renowned soundtrack team, Music from The Crown will be available worldwide on 20 June 2025 across all major streaming platforms.
