Description

Joy Division, formed in Manchester in 1976, became one of the most significant bands in English post-punk rock. Comprising Ian Curtis, Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook, and Steve Morris, the group crafted mesmerizing music reminiscent of the dark atmospheres of the Velvet Underground or the Doors, with an added touch of synthesizer. On December 18, 1979, Joy Division performed at the Bains Douches, the renowned Parisian temple of new wave. This concert, originally recorded for radio, was later released on CD by NMC. Despite playing to an almost empty venue, the band members delivered their music with the characteristic seriousness of a pioneering English rock outfit. Ian Curtis, with his romantic despair and hallucinatory fervor, already evident on the album "Unknown Pleasures," was decisively supported by Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook, and Steve Morris, who contributed to creating a musical universe that could be described as apocalyptic.
