Released in 1994 on his own label, the first record of Laurent Daumail aka DJ Cam brings a french reponse to the hip hop experimentations that are beginning to spread around the world.
At the time, trip-hop was spreading even though nobody really knew what it really covered. And, in this case, here prefered to refer to his work as abstract hip-hop, meaning that he played a lot more with textures and climates than words to bring his message. In that spirit, DJ Cam mixed in his passion for jazz music, inherited from his father.
In his test tube, Cam tries to fit in the lenght and melancholia of jazz music plated on rough samples and reinforced by various moving beats and scratches.
More than any of his future works, Underground Vibes is characterized by its melodic unity which makes the whole record perfectly homogenous but never monotonious.
After more than 30 albums composed and produced, 150 collaborations and remixes, 5,000 clubs and festivals and 5 million records sold, DJ Cam is finally releasing his first ‘best of’. Celebrate over 20 years of his career with us! Known around the world, DJ CAM was part of the avant-garde ‘French Touch’ together with Daft Punk, Air and Bob Sinclar, as well as a precursor of the electronic music popularised by his peers (Massive Attack, Madonna, Jean-Michel Jarre…).
DJ CAM founded his own label, Attytude Records, which has now sold over 3 million records and counts more than a hundred productions in its catalogue, including the single “Summer in Paris” featuring vocals by Anggun (over 5 million singles sold).
Over the years he has created a host of successful remixes (Michael Jackson, Miles Davis, Serge Gainsbourg), music for films and TV (Gus Van Sant, CSI: Miami…), soundtracks for numerous events and fashion shows and sound design for many prestigious boutiques and brands (LVMH, Cartier, Sephora, Agnès B…). And of course, DJ CAM has mixed at almost all the big clubs and music festivals in the USA, Europe, Asia and around the world. DJ Cam was the first french artist to do Coachella in 99. DJ CAM music is streamed more than 20 millions per year on Spotify and Apple Music.
