Duḥkha is the 5th album of the Polish post-progressive act Votum. The single 'Prey' coming from this album was recorded alongside Anneke van Giersbergen, the powerful voice behind The Gathering, Vuur and many many more amazing rock and metal groups. The title of the record comes from the word Duḥkha - a term found in ancient Indian literature, meaning anything that is "uneasy, uncomfortable, unpleasant, difficult, causing pain or sadness". The pieces talk about the difficulties of human condition. As Birth is duḥkha, aging is duḥkha, illness is duḥkha, death is duḥkha; sorrow, lamentation, pain, grief, and despair are duḥkha.
Votum combines dark and vibrant atmosphere within metal genre, bringing both force and ambience to play. We are no stranger to musical diversity with subtle cinematic frailty and modern electronica. Dealing in powerful guitars and acoustic ballads we create a very specific blend of fresh and unusual approach to progressive rock and metal.
