Twenty years after The Klezmatics transformed a remarkable collection of previously
unrecorded Woody Guthrie lyrics into the GRAMMY Award-winning Wonder Wheel, the band returns to
this landmark collaboration with an expanded 20th Anniversary Edition.
Seven years in the making, the original Wonder Wheel grew from The Klezmatics’ collaboration with Nora
Guthrie and the Woody Guthrie Archive. Rather than recreate the sound traditionally associated with
Guthrie, The Klezmatics treated his words as living material — setting them to new music drawing on
klezmer and Eastern European Jewish traditions alongside American folk, gospel, Latin, Celtic,
Afro-Caribbean and jazz.
