Los Angeles, CA (December 09, 2025) – The Silverlake Conservatory Of Music proudly announces Vol. 1, the debut album from the SCM All-Stars, an ensemble of the Conservatory’s outstanding student musicians. The album will be released on a 2-LP gatefold vinyl on December 22, giving fans and supporters a chance to own the music in a beautifully crafted, collectible format. Vol. 1 is available to pre-order beginning today. All proceeds from Vol. 1 will directly benefit the Silverlake Conservatory Of Music.
The SCM All-Stars set the stage for the album with the release of three tribute EPs honoring The Pretenders, Neil Young, and Red Hot Chili Peppers throughout 2025. Vol. 1 brings these projects together, packaging all three EPs and adding three exclusive new covers, one from each artist, to complete the collection. Vol. 1 was executive produced by Flea, bassist and founding member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Merck Mercuriadis, founder of Hipgnosis Songs.
“Neil Young is the truth. A music education strips away everything false about music. The kids
rock,” shares Flea.
“Music education! From the lesson room, to the practice at home, to the band rehearsal, to
letting it all out in the recording studio. And now, to your earholes! The kids at the Silverlake
Conservatory of Music have recorded something incredible, and the first three songs, an
homage to The Pretenders, are out today,” shares Flea. “Please support the kids, support
music education, listen to it and cheer them on. Thank youuuuuuu!”
“The kids! I’m so grateful that our music can be a vehicle for their spirits to fly. This is what
music is for. I am so proud of them,” shares Flea.
“Thank you for helping us uplift the youth! Build a bridge, shine a light. Together. Love, Flea”
“Flea’s passion, commitment to music education, the Silverlake Conservatory of Music and the
kids it serves is contagious for good reason,” adds Merck Mercuriadis. “Seeing these
amazing young people benefit from learning and instrument and starting to make records in
tribute to their favorite artists and songwriters is truly special. All proceeds will benefit SCM so
please listen to these amazing performances of songs you know and love and support these
amazing kids!”
“I can’t think of anyone I’d rather be tributized by. Student musicians are the best. Let’s all take
a listen to how they interpret these tunes. Thank you Flea and good work Merck,” adds Red
Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis.
Recognition Music Group / Hipgnosis Songs generously waived mechanical royalties with the approval of all three artists so that every dollar from the project can support the Conservatory. To further ensure that all proceeds directly benefit SCM, the vinyl was manufactured by Quality Record Pressing in Salinas, KS and sleeves printed by Stoughton Printing in Los Angeles, CA, both regarded as best-in-class. The Conservatory extends its sincere thanks to Chad Kassem, Jack Stoughton, Sam Gay, Mary Ann Dunmire, James Wolf and their teams for their generosity, and to Gary Leonard for his superb photographs and Kelsey Kay and Melody Ehsani for their exceptional artwork. We would also like to thank Andrew Scheps for his generosity and outstanding work in mixing the album.
The SCM All-Stars tribute EPs arrived to an outpouring of critical praise from Uproxx, Flood Magazine, Hits, Bass Magazine, Consequence, SPIN, and more. Flea joined the group for a show-stopping performance of “Hump de Bump” on Los Angeles morning television program, Good Day LA, and discussed the organization’s crucial role in nurturing the next generation of Los Angeles musicians in a recent interview with Rick Beato.
Affirming the Conservatory’s mission to provide high-quality music education to the Los Angeles community, the project offered students the opportunity to gain real-world, hands-on experience in a professional recording studio, where they learned about the creative and technical process behind making an album.
Silverlake Conservatory Of Music was founded in 2001 by longtime friends and musicians Michael “Flea” Balzary and Keith “Tree” Barry. After severe cutbacks to arts education programming throughout Los Angeles public schools, the two enlisted the help of their friend Peter Weiss and founded SCM to fill that void and bring music education to the community. SCM first opened its doors with a location at Sunset Junction. Initially offering private music lessons and scholarships to students in need, they expanded their programming to include ensemble classes, summer camps and workshops. In October 2016, after outgrowing their Sunset Junction location, they moved into their forever home at 4652 Hollywood Blvd. The music school now exists in a 1930s brick building featuring 13 state of the art lesson studios, a recital space and retail store all beautifully redesigned by Barbara Bestor.

Our mission at Silverlake Conservatory Of Music, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, is to facilitate a dynamic music education and to teach beginning and accomplished musicians of all skill levels. Our primary focus is on the youth of the community, but all are welcome and encouraged to participate. We offer private music lessons on all orchestral and band instruments including voice, as well as a variety of ensemble classes at a reasonable cost. We grant scholarships to children who qualify, providing free lessons and instruments. Performances and recitals put on by the Conservatory are a fulfilling experience for the students and a beautiful outreach to the community. Our goal is to keep our standard of teaching at the highest level while maintaining a friendly, fun and nurturing environment. The study of music enriches not only the lives of the student and teacher, but the community and society as well.
