Los Angeles soul-funk collective Family Company is teaming up with powerhouse vocalist Sam Pounds for a brand-new record, Pieces of Us — a classic soul album inspired by the late ’60s and early ’70s.
Tracked live to tape in LA studios with rhythm section and horns locked in the same room, the album captures that raw, human energy you can’t fake. Pounds was originally set to write for just one or two songs — but the music sparked something bigger. He ended up writing eleven tracks, creating a collaboration that feels more like fate than chance.
The record also features sweeping strings and soaring background vocals, all recorded the old-school way: three voices, one mic, one take. The result? A soulful, groove-heavy record that feels like it could have been pressed at Stax or Muscle Shoals, but made for right now.
