For the first time ever, the mixtape Sleep with a Cane by Klein will be available on a real 2-CD Jewel Case.
Sleep with a Cane was previously released in two versions: a two-cassette edition (Sleep with a Cane: The Motion Picture Music Soundtrack) featuring every track from the film, and a Bandcamp edition titled Sleep with a cane: Music from the Motion Picture, which contained a handful of “highlights.”
The album went on to become an international top-10 success (depending on how you measure “success”). Chart history includes: #281 on the US Soul charts, #18 in the UK, and a confusing but historic #1 in France. Smash singles like Rich Dad Poor Dad, Informa, and Young, Black and Free prove that chaos does, in fact, have a place in pop culture.
Also featured is Bruk Promise, a track that has somehow already won both the Oscar and the Golden Globe for Best Original Song. Klein herself picked up the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical, while the film adaptation claimed Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical.
This is not real, but enjoy the CD.
Klein is an artist and musician whose work often blurs the lines between fact and fiction. Her music releases, films, and performances are often informed by urban mapping, surveillance, humor, hip-hop, noise, identity, and beyond. In addition to her practice, Klein approaches drawing, sculpture and video work as 'investigative journalism' employing spatial reconstruction, speculative mapping, and archival layering to uncover hidden narratives and emotional truths. Her work has been shown and/or performed at Museums, Galleries, yards, squats, pubs, stage and screen.
