Description

‘TIME MACHINE’ is KAGAMI’s Japanese debut EP, created from their deep love for 1980s Japanese AOR and City Pop, reimagined through a contemporary lens. Inspired by artists like Tomoko Aran and Tatsuro Yamashita, KAGAMI explores timeless musical values, weaving a narrative through memories and the passage of time. The project features collaborations with renowned Japanese artists, including kiki vivi lily, Kan Sano, Natsu Summer, Hikari, Yosuke Nakano(from Emerald), and Wakita Monari, each bringing their artistry to this project. It reflects cherished childhood moments, fading relationships, the quiet emptiness of daily life, and emotions that linger despite the years. They imagined the project as a lost masterpiece from the 1980s, one that never saw the light of day, and they were determined to capture the essence and sound of that era.

Netherlands

KAGAMI is a Cosmic Funk project from the Netherlands, founded by producer duo Lucas Sim and Rotem Gerad. Drawing from their backgrounds in jazz, disco, and electronic music, they create a sound influenced by French Touch and Japanese City Pop. Their compositions blend rich instrumentation with electronic production, featuring live basslines, synth-driven grooves, and smooth vocal melodies inspired by artists like Daft Punk and Tatsuro Yamashita. With a rotating lineup of musicians, KAGAMI brings their music to life on stage, offering a dynamic performance that combines classic and contemporary influences.

Their energetic live performances have turned heads at major events, including North Sea Jazz Festival, Metropolis Festival, and a sold-out show at Paradiso. Their debut EP, PHASE 1, gained national and international radio play, from NPO2 in the Netherlands to Japan’s J-WAVE, where Friends and Little Bit landed on DJ Taro's prestigious Spotify editorial playlist. Last year KAGAMI reached #25 on Tokyo’s J-WAVE Top 100, further cementing their growing presence in Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea, alongside a strong streaming audience in the U.S. and Europe.
