Embark on a journey through the world of Ghibli, where music soars and touches the sky. A Piano in the Sky is a unique sensory experience, an invitation to dream with open eyes.

Inspired by the music of Joe Hisaishi and the enchanting universe of Hayao Miyazaki, Guillaume Masson carries you into an aerial ballet, where notes drift between sky and clouds, blending poetry and pure emotion.

Guillaume Masson

"The films of Studio Ghibli express symbolism, oneirism, and visual beauty, creating a unique and magical experience for the viewer. All these essences are brought to life through the music of composer Joe Hisaishi, who has crafted a musical language inspired by French Impressionist composers, traditional Eastern melodies, and modern pop culture, resulting in some of the most beautiful and poetic film scores of the past decades.
As the pianist on this album, I aimed to capture every musical detail of the original scores, from the softest tones to the most powerful themes, striving to preserve the full orchestral richness. Through the expressive possibilities of the piano, my goal was to remain as faithful as possible to Hisaishi’s compositions, preserving their emotion and spirit while creating a new - yet familiar - solo piano listening experience.
For all these reasons, I'm truly grateful for the opportunity to record this work and delighted to share the result on this album"

France

Born in Orleans (France), he studied classical piano at the Paris Conservatory, where he got a master degree in interpretation. He also went abroad to perfect his playing at the Royal Academy of Music in London.

Laureate of many piano competitions, his passion for Chopin led him to take part to "the 16th international Frederic Chopin Competition" in Warsaw (2010), where he reached the third step.

He gives concerts and masterclass worldwide, especially in Europe and Asia, and released his first album in 2011 (Mozart, Chopin, Ravel, Debussy). He plays regularly with chamber music, and has a piano/flute duo called Izanami (with Marie Ishii).

Aside from his performing activities, he also studied music writing, which led him to do transcriptions for piano of orchestral works, from classical music to jazz and film soundtracks. One of his biggest work to this day is his piano versions of Studio Ghibli’s orchestral works (Hayao Miyazaki’s movies) composed by Joe Hisaishi. From this project, he released the album “Piano transcriptions”. He also published all his transcription scores here on Mymusicsheet. They are represented by Sony/ATV and Warner Chappell Music.
