Loren Jamal - MY OWN WAY

MY OWN WAY is the sixth studio album released by singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Loren Jamal. The album explores the trials, tribulations, and triumphs of life’s journey through the lens of Loren himself. Hailed as the most personal and vulnerable album of his discography, MY OWN WAY dives deep into relationships, friendships, anxiety, insecurities, self-reflection, and overcoming negativity and pain.

The album began production in July 2022 and went through various iterations before it grew and formed into what it is today. During the writing and production process, many shifts and circumstances heavily influenced the album’s content. Several songs were crafted within the first few months of the recording process – however, after completing these songs, it was determined by Loren Jamal to completely change the direction, tone, and message of the album. The album production came to a brief pause and the re-structuring began in June of 2023. All in all, a total of 83 songs were recorded and conceptualized for the project. The album was completed and shared with the FIVE.86 Music label in February 2024, nearly two years after its inception.

A fusion of Afrobeat, Reggae, Pop, R&B, Rock, and elements of Jazz and Classical music, this album explodes with character and personality unlike any other Loren Jamal release thus far. Although there is an eclectic and vibrant mixing of a plethora of genres, the album is a cohesive interweaving of them all. It remains honest, vibrant, and fun throughout while taking the listener on an uninterrupted journey with seamless transitions, introspective interludes, and brilliant mastery of music and music theory.

There are a few guest appearances on the album including rapper, songwriter, producer, and instrumentalist AwkWord-O, talent singer/songwriter Lila Combs, and upcoming producer, singer, songwriter, and rapper Sean Harris Jr., also known by his stage name Syere. The album also includes contributions from singer/songwriter, producer, and record label executive Trezz Larry. This dynamic group of talented individuals helped craft and produce a body of work that is masterfully organized and entertaining. “I wanted to work with people who had a true appreciation for music in general”, words spoken by Loren Jamal, “people who just want to be creative and think outside the box.” The mission was, indeed, accomplished. Collaboration is always a great thing in the independent music world, but most effective when done intentionally.

All in all, MY OWN WAY is a great album with amazing qualities that may be one of Loren Jamal’s best works since 2020’s “Apocalyptic Lover”. The music continues to push the boundaries of what is possible within the LJ Universe and the world at large.
