With his 2010 Motéma debut, WATER, vocalist Gregory Porter joined the elite community of jazz artists who have received a GRAMMY-nomination for their first release. His 2012 follow up, BE GOOD landed him yet another GRAMMY-nomination, this round for Best Traditional R&B Performance. Porter’s “brawny baritone” and “economical sense of phrasing and pitchy lyricism” (Downbeat) along with his singular songwriting abilities and magnetic stage presence, presented ample evidence, at the time, that Porter was, in fact, “the next big male vocal jazz star." The rest is history.
