Pahdo, (파도) meaning "wave" in Korean, symbolizes the ebb and flow of Nogymx's artistic evolution and the profound influence of his surroundings. Known at home as Jimmy Dunne, Nogymx is an Irish-born, South Korea-based English professor moonlighting as a producer with a love for the non-traditional style of instrumental hip hop.
Formerly known as "No Gimmicks," Nogymx has rebranded himself with a name that is often mispronounced yet memorable. His music fuses the atmospheric elegance of Bonobo, the jazz-inflected beats of Freddie Joachim, and the cultural influences of his adopted home in South Korea, resulting in a signature sound that is both nostalgic and forward-thinking. Drawing inspiration from other artists such as Nujabes, Uyama Hiroto, Apollo Brown, Shlohmo, Emancipator, and more, Nogymx has found his own corner in the ever-evolving landscape of the instrumental music scene.
