"What Came Before" is a collection of the back catalog from John's solo career spanning from 2012 to 2022 prior to forming Roots Reverie. It was recorded featuring various musicians on drums and bass, produced entirely DIY and released at separate times over a decade in the music industry. The collection of songs has been remixed and remastered, and is now available on all streaming networks as well as vinyl and CD.
Roots Reverie is a New York-based pop/rock/folk duo and band led by singer/songwriter John Black (vocals, guitar) and his life/artistic partner, Karla Moronta (vocals, piano, percussion). Formed in 2023 on the heels of Black's longtime work as a solo artist after a decade fronting various bands in the NYC area, their debut album is a collection of his original material written between 2012 and 2022.
