Ritmo takes us on a journey of rhythm, fantasy and melody in a unique encounter between visual and auditory art with his new album “Roots”. The album explores Ritmo’s roots and the intricate connection between music and nature, creating one truly organic experience.
The entire process of writing the album took place during the pandemic, allowing Ritmo to fully immerse himself in the creative process. The result is a collection of 9 tracks that weave together to tell one cohesive story.
Drawing on inspiration from nature, Roots features a plethora of natural sounds, including wind, water, and other organic elements. From the first beat of the opening track "Simplest C" to the final notes of the last track of the album "Roots", the transitions and influences of style and BPM make this more than just a pure trance experience, but an all-encompassing musical journey.
The album's art is as integral to the experience as the music itself. Created in collaboration with the artist Daniel Philosoph, the album's cover and singles images are all related to the music, fitting together like pieces of a puzzle to create a complete picture. Each track is a story on its own, but when combined, they create a larger narrative that speaks to the album's overarching theme - roots.

The year was 1997, and the great tree of electronic dance music continued to expand and split into various branches and their native tribes. Psychedelic trance was in full swing, with its staccato kick drums, high BPMs, and consciousness-expanding synth patterns. To some, it was more than a music style - it represented a way of life. Thus it was for Emok and Banel, two young Danish DJ/producers who fully leaned in and came together in Copenhagen to establish what would become one of the longest lasting and most universally respected labels in the psy-trance underground. Ace Ventura, Liquid Soul, Captain Hook, just some of the superstars of the scene that have been loyal mainstays on the label's release calendar over the years, but never detracting from the label's ethos of developing new artists through unity, collaboration, and steadfast support. In 2022, Emok and Banel still wake up every day thinking about their core values of connection, passion and ultimately a zest for life. And of course: heart-racing, foot-stomping, and mind-expanding beats!
