Description

Lionfish is so many things. Jazz, soul, hip hop, r&b, spoken word, Indigenous, Jewish, American, international, feminine, masculine, spiritual, political, retro, innovative. There is nothing else like it, and it brings us so much immense joy to bring it to you in the way it was intended to be experienced. We listened to so much vinyl and rocked our favorite artists' hoodies while making this album. Now you can experience us the same way we experienced our inspirations.

This version of the album is a brand-new master, tweaked specifically to play perfectly on vinyl so we can give you the unique and perfect listening experience you deserve. At this time, this limited pre-order is our only planned version of a physical release for this album.

Lionfish represents a very special moment in time for us. Less than a year into our relationship and exploration into music as a serious career, we, like everyone else at that time, retreated into isolation. We needed to be artists, but we had nowhere we could go, no studios we could visit, shows we could perform or homies to jam with. So we bought a microphone, rigged a setup, and made friends online, like the illustriously talented and kind hearted producer KingJP from Montreal whose instrumentals fueled this project. We then started crafting, unknowingly, the album that would kick start our journey into the musical world. Lionfish.

This project took so much effort, so much emotion, sweat and tears, but also sheer hours, we spent more than 1000 hours on this album. We pushed ourselves, our pens, vocal chords, microphones, producers and engineers to the absolute limit. There was so much jazz and earnest freeform style in the creation process, but also a daunting and incredible amount of technical intentionality in the finalizing and completion of the work. It took us almost 2 years to make this album.

Every song was mixed more than 20 times. So many songs and instrumentals were cut or modified, naming the songs alone took us almost 2 weeks. From the transitions and switch ups to the song order and skits, every detail was met with several different pairs of eyes and ears and meticulously sculpted until it was exactly how we wanted it to be.

This project was an international team effort with our mixing engineer Caio Ishikawa based in Lisbon, Portugal, our producer KingJP from Montreal, Canada and our mastering engineer Sam Kumar Tandon out of San Diego. These three humans were the primary ingredients in this album’s existence. The mutual respect and admiration inside of this team allowed us all to take on and complete this massive task together. We couldn’t have done it without them. We’re so grateful they took a chance on us.

This was our first gift to the world, and the most revealing and terrifying moment of our lives. Lionfish’s release was when we truly began our adventure in music. Now, time sealed and captured, we can’t wait for you to hear this physically. When you do, please take pictures, and send us a message, we’d love to hear from you!
