The group was founded in Dijon France in 1993 with three members: Olivier Saint Denis, Olivier Kaiser and Olivier Regis. The name "Square" comes from the initials of each surname. SKR was passionate about "machine music" and more particularly for those who came from Detroit. The trio composed and performed in several local raves, as well as for the after party of the institutional evening "Wake Up Dijon" in November 1993, where Laurent Garnier officiates and where he immediately asked them for a demo. He called them up soon after, excited by the tracks, and the project gave birth in April 1995 under the name of "Square Ep».
