Ludo morillon - Boris DMS Songs

I got the idea while listening to the drums of the song "Sunday Bloody Sunday" by the band U2, that anyone can recognize if you just tap your fingers on a table.
As a great admirer of The Cure and of the drum beats of Boris Williams (the band's drummer from 1985 to 1994), I wanted to pay him a tribute by making new recordings some of his wonderfully composed beats. These are really one of a kind, very musical and melodic.

I contacted composers and artists, whose universe I particularly enjoy, and asked them to write new instrumental music with or without vocals based on one of the drum patterns. The idea was to give these patterns a different life from The Cure original songs.

I wanted to show that a good drum beat may have a significant purpose in a song almost as identifiable as a harmony.
It was a way to for each composer to apply their own musical universe to a prescribed drum beat; you don't always know the genesis of a song, it may well have started from a drum beat.

Here are the only technical requirements that I gave to each composer:

• Respect the rhythm and tempo.
• The rhythm should be identifiable but can be cut at any point if necessary.
• You can use effects and tools as long as one can recognise the rhythm.
• Finally, you do not have to use the whole drum pattern you can use as much as you like.
