Description

In 2017, after recording and touring his sound-bending EP and mixtapes for 3 years, Chronixx was ready to release his highly anticipated debut album/LP. The artist was right on time with a sonic experience that was purposed for a spiritual and cultural uprising. Chronology delivered 16 songs that would serve as a landmark installation for the endless worlds of Jamaican music. For his most collaborative project, Chronixx employed a wide range of collaborators to write and produce this contemporary presentation of Jamaican Roots music. The project begins with an autobiographic declaration of the artist’s roots as a second-generation talent from the tough Spanish town streets.

In “Spanish Town Rockin”, Chronixx proves that in the studio he is “Nicodemus”, “The Heptones” and “Coco Tea” all in one. A type of vocal performance that feels soulfully refreshing to anyone who has been touched by the classic soul music of Jamaica. This timeless voice rides steadily with the tides in “Skanking Sweet” and “Majesty”, leading a cheerful choral in “I Can” and sending a message of introspection to dancehall fans with “Likes”. Throughout the album, the imaginative performer chants through vibrant orchestral arrangements in “Legend” and “Black is Beautiful”, and the deep blue chord progressions of “Selassie Children” to accomplish precisely what he set out to do from his Roots and Chalice mixtape- weave together the sonic threads that tell the story of the Jamaican sound.
