Jean Philippe Smet fait ses classes dans la rue, le music’hall est sa vie, l’école passe en second. A dix-sept ans, il commence à enregistrer en studio et à soixante-quatorze ans il y était encore. On peut leurrer quelques personnes longtemps, on peut leurrer un public immense un court instant, mais un artiste ne peut leurrer une foule immense d’admirateurs 57 ans. Il est peu d’exemples, en France où ailleurs d’une telle longévité dans le monde de la musique. Johnny Hallyday a non seulement réuni autour de lui un foule d’admirateurs, dès ses premières prestations mais il a fait grandir cette foule et il a su la conserver 57 années durant. Rester au sommet de la popularité plus de cinquante ans n’est possible que pour un artiste qui réunit le talent et la sincérité.

It is the fusion of Gospel, Blues and Jazz that gives birth to new rhythms during the 50’s in the United States. Black artists are the first ones to associate upbeat tempo with jazz and blues.
