Maartje Teussink’s illustrious career spans continents and disciplines. Hailing from the Netherlands, she honed her craft at the Janáček Music Academy in Brno, Czech Republic, studying percussion and classical singing, before continuing her education at the Academy for Music and Theater in Amsterdam. A self-taught multi-instrumentalist, she has mastered an array of instruments, guitars, drums, bass, piano, synthesizer, clarinet, bouzouki, and double bass, blending alternative pop with classical influences. Her work as a composer and performer has graced national and international theater and contemporary dance productions, as well as film scores and multimedia installations. In 2018, her album Organic Cities was distributed by Bertus Distribution, showcasing her ability to merge lyrical storytelling with rich, atmospheric soundscapes. A recipient of the prestigious Grote Prijs van Nederland award in 2000 and 2001 for her singer-songwriter compositions, Maartje Teussink continues to push boundaries as an independent creator under her label, Thoughtrecords. Based in Rotterdam, she balances her music career with studies in Master Music Therapy, further deepening her connection to the transformative power of sound.
