Chanteuse de jazz est une place difficile, très difficile à tenir. Quelle voix peut s’enorgueillir d’une technique parfaite et d’une sensibilité restée naturelle ? on serait tenté de répondre aucune, parce que toutes les plus belles voix, de Billie à Carmen et d’Ella à Helen, ont un jour fait preuve d’excès, Sarah y compris. Mais lorsque Sarah nous dévoile une sensibilité retenue et une technique supérieure à toutes, même les plus grandes ne peuvent rivaliser. Bien sûr l’amplitude de sa voix lui permet toutes les audaces, bien sûr son sens inné du rythme, de la mélodie et de l’harmonie la place au cœur de l’orchestre, au cœur de la musique, mais que ce soit dans un répertoire résolument jazz ou une prestation pour le grand public, comme le cocktail ici réuni, elle sait surtout nous dévoiler une sensibilité profonde, et pourtant assez légère pour nous émouvoir, juste ce qu’il faut pour nous ôter notre carapace d’urbain blasé.
