C’est en studio qu’en 2017 et 2018 The Potato Kingdom a vu le jour, dystopie parallèle à notre réalité commune, stagnante et imprégnée par les médias, un endroit où l’obsession matérielle est sublimée dans un culte quotidien de la pomme de terre, où les aspirations sont réalisées dans le caniveau, où le kitsch devient divin, dégradé de romantisme, où nous sommes tous souillés dans les rues de Plebeola, du trône à l’abreuvoir. Bien qu’il apparaisse comme un mirage au début, une fois les premières marches franchies devant les portes du Royaume, le cadre que Ralph a construit s’ouvre à un domaine inconnu qui promet au spectateur une opulence de riens et une abondance de richesses sans valeur d’échange, l’environnement parfait pour que l’imagination s’épanouisse selon certains.
In corporeal terms Ralph Of London is Leopold, François, Diane and Ralph, four musicians brought together between London and the North of France sometime in the middle of 2017. They describe their music as Shit-Pop, or in more elaborate words: a soundtrack for the end of musical history. As a group, the eclectic influences that bleed through their music are transcended into a homogenous sonic tapestry that sounds both fresh and meticulously crafted. Following a string of one off tracks uploaded online with a conceptual video, the band released their first official single ‘Hopeless Melody' in May 2019, followed by ‘Worlds End’ in February 2020, both taken from ‘The Potato Kingdom’, the debut ROL LP subsequently released in March 2020. After three years of transporting drums, vintage synthesisers and electric guitars around the UK and France to hone their live repertoire, Ralph and the band are now in the process of recording their second LP in the self built ‘Yellow Sky Studio’, a multifaceted art facility constructed in a disused quarter of an inner city Protestant Temple.
