Description

Luc and Vaiteani are the hybrid hymen of Alsace and Tahiti. Their ‘Polynesian Folk’ surges from the blue, taking us captive and enfolding us in its wholly unfamiliar, sensual embrace.

Two hearts and souls are joined, merging into a single name. Together, they fashion their ballads to coincide with the pulsations of body and mind. When Vaiteani met Luc and sang for him, the truth was self-evident. He found himself suspended from her voice. Her rich timber shone with warm colours, sepia tints and deep rounded shades of amber and fawn, all overlaid with a sweet patina. It was a voice from afar: with American soul colours laid on an orchidaceous velvet, powerful songs swathed in sincere affection…

After winning the ‘9 semaines et un jour’ (9 weeks and One Day) talent competition, they worked their charm on the acclaimed French singer Laurent Voulzy, who first saw them on the main stage of the Francofolies festival in 2011.
Anointed by guardian angel Voulzy, Vaiteani began to write tirelessly. On guitar or at the piano, she bared her soul and drifted with the flow, deploying the broad spectrum of her emotions in nacreous melodies and painting delicate musical self-portraits in songs that speak to our souls. Meanwhile, Luc distilled delicate arrangements hemmed with nomadic percussion.

As the Tahitian explains, Ben Harper has blessed her soul and Beyoncé communicates directly with her body. Alchemist of all trades, Luc draws equal measures of inspiration from a Jordi Savall’s chaconne or the intricate embroideries of Toumani Diabaté’s kora music.
